This international bestseller is one of my pick's of the week! "One cruel night, Meggie's father, Mo, reads aloud from INKHEART, and an evil ruler named Capricorn escapes the boundaries of the book, landing in their living room. Suddenly, Meggie is smack in the middle of the kind of adventure she's only ever read about. Somehow, Meggie must learn to harness the magic that has conjured this nightmare. Can she change the course of the story that has changed her life forever?"
The Thief Lord- by Cornelia Funke
Another great read from Cornelia Funke! "Welcome to the magical underworld of Venice, Italy where crumbling rooftops and hidden canals shelter runaways and children with incredible secrets...Proper and Bo are orphans on the run from their cruel aunt and uncle. The brothers decide to hide out in Venice, where they meet a mysterious thirteen year old boy who calls himself the "Thief Lord." Brilliant and charismatic, the Thief Lord leads a ring of street children who dabble in petty crimes. Prosper and Bo delight in being part of this colourful new family. But the Thief Lord has secrets of his own. And soon the boys are thrust into circumstances that will lead them, and readers, to a fantastic, spellbinding conclusion/
World War One Poetry
THE MAN HE KILLED "Had he and I but met By some old ancient inn, We should have sat us down to wet Right many a nipperkin!
"But ranged as infantry, And staring face to face, I shot at him and he at me, And killed him in his place.
"I shot him dead because- Because he was my foe, Just so - my foe of course he was; That's clear enough; although
"He thought he'd 'list perhaps, Off-hand like - just as I - Was out of work - had sold his traps - No other reason why.
"Yes; quaint and curious war is! You shoot a fellow down You'd treat if met where any bar is, Or help to half-a-crown."

HEROES I’m only 14 but I’d like to say, That those heroes gave their lives all in one day, They thought about us and went to fight, Following their feelings, following that light, Young boys went to travel the world, Little did they know they were going to be killed? Leaving thinking I’ll be back for Christmas supper, But they fought for us and had to suffer, Through pain, misery and things they would never of imagined, All that they went through they in-deed became a legend, No we are free to do what we wish, And for those enemies we did not demolish, Learn from our bravery, For we will fight and win willingly.

The Lark Above The Trenches
All day the guns had worked their hellish will, And all night long With sobbing breath men gasped their lives away, Or shivered restless on the ice-cold clay, Till morn broke pale and chill With sudden song.
Above the sterile furrows war had ploughed With deep-trenched seams, Wherein this year such bitter seed is sown, Wherein this year no fruitful grain is strown, A lark poured from the cloud Its throbbing dreams.
It sang - and pain and death were passing shows - So glad and strong; Life soared triumphant, through a myriad men Were swept like leaves beyong the living's ken, That wounded hope arose To greet that song.
Subject by subject, exemplars show teachers key features to look for when grading student work. These documents feature samples of actual student work at each of the four levels of achievement, accompanied by teachers' comments explaining why the particular achievement level was assigned. Parents and students may also find these documents helpful.
